In December 2016, Scientex expanded its Johor landbank with the acquisition of another 121 acres of strategically located lands in Senai, Johor which will provide future impetus for its affordable housing in the State of Johor in the coming years.
In November 2016, Scientex moved to a new corporate headquarters in Shah Alam.
Scientex announced the formation of the wholly owned subsidiary of Scientex Packaging Film Sdn Bhd known as Scientex Phoenix, LLC which will manufacture quality stretch film for the North, Central and South America markets. The plant will be located in Phoenix, Arizona, USA
In November 2016, Scientex signed a sales and purchase agreement to acquire 197.4 acres of development land in the Mukim of Durian Tunggal, Alor Gajah, Melaka to cater to the growing needs of affordable housing in the state.
The commencing of the purpose-built state-of-art facility was officiated by Y.B Datuk Ahmad Maslan the former Deputy Minister of International Trade & Industry on 29 September 2016.
In March 2016, Scientex’s brand new CPP plant which is located in Melaka officially commenced operations.
In March 2016, Scientex signed two sales and purchase agreements for the acquisition of the two pieces of freehold lands in Klebang and Meru in Ipoh, Perak measuring a total of 25 acres, marking its first property development foray into northern Peninsular Malaysia.
The Group had in August 2015 successfully acquired a 100% stake in Mondi Ipoh Sdn Bhd (now known as Scientex Great Wall (Ipoh) Sdn Bhd), an established Perak based manufacturer of industrial and consumer packaging company which offers the Group a further diversification of international clientele base and product portfolio.
The Group, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Scientex Quatari Sdn Bhd, entered into 2 conditional sale and purchase agreements with the vendors to acquire 326 acres of freehold lands in Pulai, Johor for a sum of approximately RM220 million. Upon completion of the proposed acquisition in January 2016, it will boost the landbank of the Group and enable the Group to see more launches of affordable homes in the State of Johor.
With the setting up of the Scientex Techinal Film Centre which has state-of-art testing facilities, the Group can work closely together with its major MNC clients to focus on new product development and quality improvements as part of its efforts to further boost demand for its products in the future.
Futamura Chemical Co., Ltd, the largest BOPP film producer in Japan, took up a 5% equity stake in Scientex Great Wall Sdn Bhd. At the same time Scientex Great Wall Sdn Bhd committed itself to purchase 2 BOPP production lines from Japan Steel Works (JSW), 2 CPP production lines from Reifenhauser, and 1 10 Colour CI Flexo Press (Miraflex CM10) printing machine from Windmoller and Hoelscher.
All consumer packaging business under the Scientex Group has been successfully integrated under Scientex Great Wall Sdn Bhd, giving us the platform to provide the full range of solutions and achieve rapid growth in consumer packaging across the Asia Pacific region.
Scientex International (S) Pte Ltd (SIS) was incorporated in Singapore on 21st February 2014. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Scientex Berhad. SIS was set up with the sole objective to spearhead the Group’s regional expansion plans into the ASEAN markets and to make Singapore its regional trading hub for the procurement and trading of resins, films and adhesives.
Voluntary take-over offer to privatise Scientex Packaging Berhad (SciPack) was successfully completed and SciPack became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Scientex Bhd
Scientex successfully completed the acquisition of Seacera Polyfilms on 13th February 2014. With this, Scientex has diversified its product range into the manufacturing of BOPP film and tap on the existing customers of Seacera Polyfilms as well as explore new customers to expand this new business unit.
Scientex officially launched Scientex Senai together with its brand new sale gallery on 11 Jan 2014 following the overwhelming demand and record sales of its affordable homes which were completely sold out within five days of its maiden soft launch held in November 2013.
Scientex achieved a monumental milestone in 2013 when, for the first time in its history, Scientex achieved a revenue of RM1.2 billion and a net profit of RM110 mil.
Scientex property division ventured into industrial property development when it launched its maiden industrial property project known as Innoparc in 2013.

Scientex executed conditional share sale agreement in November 2013 to acquire Seacera Polyfilms Sdn Bhd (Seacera Polyfilms), one of the country’s major producers of bi-axially-oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films.
Scientex continued to expand its landbank in Iskandar Malaysia with the acquisition of two pieces of freehold lands measuring a total of 48.4 acres in Kulai, Johor.
Scientex further expanded its landbank in Johor in 2012 when it purchased 250 acres of land in Senai. This land is in close proximity to Senai International Airport making it ideal for an industrial hub.
With the additional floor space, Scientex installed Asia first nano technology cast line which is capable of producing a 22 layer film.
Scientex also expanded its Pulau Indah stretch film facility in 2013 to cater for 3 additional production lines as well as having a total of 33 loading bays.
In 2013, Scientex ventured into the food packaging segment by acquiring Great Wall Plastic Industries Berhad and GW Packaging Sdn. Bhd.
In the pursuit to be the largest stretch film producer in the world, we acquired another 12.5 acres of industrial land in Pulau Indah in 2011.
Scientex’s foray into property development continued with the acquisition of 146 acres of land in Skudai in 2010. Taman Mutiara Mas would be Scientex’s crown jewel in property development.
Scientex achieved a capacity of 100,000MT of stretch film in 2010 with the commissioning of its 8th cast film line.
Pan Pacific Straptex cemented its place as one of the largest producer of PP strapping band in Asia after the completion of their 2nd factory in 2009.
In 2009, Scientex acquired the remaining paid-up capital of Rising Heights Development Sdn. Bhd. which owns 186 acres of residential and commercial development known as Taman Muzaffar Heights in Ayer Keroh, Melaka.
Scientex Foundation, a charitable trust was set up in 2008 to fund and support corporate responsibility activities relating to health and healthcare related services and community projects which aim to protect and preserve the nature and environment.
Scientex ventured into the tying tape (raffia) industry in 2008, when we joint ventured with Tsukasa Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. of Japan to manufacture HDPE raffia tape in the Vietnam plant.
In a rebranding exercise in 2008, Scientex changed its name to “Scientex Berhad” to better reflect its diversified operations. At the same time, a new corporate logo and tagline of “healthy, friendly & happy” was introduced.
A year after purchasing the land in Kulai, Scientex officially launched Scientex Kulai in March 2008.
Scientex increased its property landbank in Johor in 2007 when we acquired 250 acres of prime freehold land in Kulai for RM 33 mil. This piece of land is strategically located in the Iskandar Malaysia region.
To cater to various segments of property purchasers, Scientex opened its new show village in 2007. This show village showcased a sales office as well as various show houses.
WCB changed its name to Scientex Packaging Berhad to better reflect its core business of industrial packaging
In 2006, Scientex Packaging Film expanded its stretch film operations in Pulau Indah by building a new factory costing RM 50 mil beside the existing factory.
Scientex expanded its PP & PE woven bags, and FIBC bulk bags operations in 2005 by setting up its second manufacturing plant in Vietnam.
Scientex expanded its landbank in Pasir Gudang by acquiring 95 acres of freehold land next to its Taman Scientex in 2005.
Scientex expanded into the food packaging industry when it entered into a joint venture with Mitsui Takeda Checimals, Inc. from Japan in 2002 to set up the first adhesive plant in ASEAN to manufacture and market adhesive materials for flexible food packaging.
In 2000, Scientex acquired 9.2 acres of land in Pulau Indah to house its stretch film production facilities. 3 years later, we added another 4.5 acres, making it a total of 13.7 acres. In years to come, this would be the world’s largest stretch film production facility in a single location.
1997 also saw Scientex venturing into the PP strapping band business when Woventex Corporation Berhad entered into a joint venture with Tsukasa Chemical Industry Co., Ltd.
Scientex stature as a reputable property developer was enhanced when Johor’s then Menteri Besar officiated a ground breaking ceremony in Taman Scientex in 1997.
In 1997, Scientex ventured into the stretch film business through its subsidiary Scientex Packaging Film Sdn. Bhd. which commissioned its first stretch film production line (Line 21). This line had a capacity of 8,000 MT. This was the start of Scientex’s meteoric rise in the stretch film industry.
In 1996, Woventex Corporation Berhad was successfully listed on the Second Board of the KLSE.
1n 1996, Yamatex entered into a joint venture with Yamato and Mitsui to set up Scientex Polymer (Vietnam) Co., Ltd. to produce tufted carpet mats in Vietnam.
To better reflect the Group’s diversified activities, Scientex Industries Berhad changed its name to Scientex Incorporated Berhad in 1995
In 1994, SIB acquired Scientex Containers Sdn. Bhd. to manufacture and market corrugated carton boxes for industrial packaging industry.
In 1993, SIB signed a license and technical agreement with Yamato Chemical Ind. Co., Ltd . to manufacture PVC/PP foamed sheets for automotive interior.
Taman Scientex Pasir Gudang was a result of a Joint Venture in 1993 with the Singapore’s Lim Kah Ngam Group to develop 33% of SIB’s land in Johor.
SIB became a public listed company on Feb 8, 1990 when it was granted listing on the Main Board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE) now know as Bursa Malaysia.
SIB’s subsidiary, Woventex Sdn. Bhd.’s new plant in Melaka commenced operations in 1990.
SIB signed a JV agreement with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Yamato Chemical Ind. Co., Ltd. to set up Yamatex (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. to produce and market tufted carpet mats for automobiles in its Shah Alam plant.
Scientex diversified into plantation business by investing into Scientex Quatari Sdn Bhd, which owns 1,004 acres of plantation land near Pasir Gudang, Johor. This would turn out to be the stepping stone in Scientex’s foray as a premier property developer in Malaysia.
SIB relocated its operations from Johor Bahru to its present location in Shah Alam in 1974.
In 1971, SIB acquired an additional 5 acres of industrial land in Shah Alam for its Phase 2 (1972) and Phase 3 (1974) expansion plans.
SIB acquired 3 acres of industrial land in Shah Alam for Phase 1 factory expansion in 1970.
In 1970, we became a public company and changed our name to Scientex Industries Berhad (SIB).
Scientific Textile Industries Sdn. Bhd. was established on June 25, 1968 in Johor Bahru to manufacture PVC leather and sheeting. We began operations with 40 staff from a rented factory lot.
